This TikTok Investment Scam Costs Entrepreneur RM245,403
Abstract:A 56 year old palm oil entrepreneur in Tangkak lost RM245,403 after being drawn into a purported investment scheme advertised on TikTok.

A 56 year old palm oil entrepreneur in Tangkak lost RM245,403 after being drawn into a purported investment scheme advertised on TikTok, according to police, highlighting the growing financial threat posed by investment promotions circulating on social media.
The woman reportedly encountered an advertisement for an investment scheme known as Quantsea X on May 6. The promotion allegedly attracted her with the prospect of lucrative returns within a short period and assurances that her capital would generate substantial profits.
Police said the victim subsequently carried out 18 transactions between July 1 and Aug 22. The payments were made through three different bank accounts believed to be mule accounts, with the total amount transferred eventually reaching RM245,403.
The victim lodged a police report on Aug 30, according to Tangkak district police chief Superintendent Roslan Mohd Talib.
Authorities are investigating the case under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which covers cheating. Police have not indicated that the advertised investment scheme was a legitimate financial product, while the investigation will determine the identities and roles of those involved.
The appeal of quick profits remains one of the most effective tools used in investment fraud. Promises of unusually high returns can create a sense of urgency, particularly when advertisements are designed to resemble professional financial promotions or suggest that an opportunity is available only for a limited period.
In this case, the victim made repeated payments rather than a single transfer. The pattern is significant because fraudulent schemes frequently depend on continued deposits after the initial payment, with victims encouraged to increase their exposure by promises of greater returns or claims that further funds are needed to unlock profits.
Police have urged members of the public to conduct checks before committing money to investment opportunities, particularly when the schemes promise high returns through apparently easy methods.
Authorities have also advised scam victims to contact the National Scam Response Centre at 997 as soon as possible. Early action can give financial institutions and authorities a better opportunity to attempt to interrupt the movement of funds.
