Having traded for many years, I pay close attention to spread structures, as they directly influence both costs and overall strategy effectiveness. Based on my thorough research and personal review of TradeStation, it’s important to clarify that TradeStation operates more as a multi-asset brokerage rather than a pure forex broker. Instead of traditional spreads familiar to forex platforms, TradeStation mainly lists commissions for stocks, ETFs, options, and futures, with clear fee schedules differentiated by client residency. This means that for non-U.S. residents, a flat per-trade commission is typical, while U.S. clients often benefit from zero commission on many equities. Because TradeStation does not primarily provide forex trading and does not extensively advertise spread models on its platform, I have not encountered conventional fixed or variable spread information as one would with standard forex brokers. Instead, the cost structure for most assets comes from commissions and exchange-driven bid-ask spreads, the latter of which are inherently variable. From experience, these spreads can widen during high volatility or major announcements, since underlying market liquidity declines and the exchanges adjust accordingly. Thus, during events like earnings releases or macroeconomic news, I’ve observed noticeably less attractive prices for entering or exiting trades. For anyone considering TradeStation, it’s vital to anticipate higher trading costs during turbulent periods and to understand that, lacking regulatory oversight, extra caution is warranted with complex strategies or large positions when rapid execution under pressure is critical.
