Based on my research and experience in the forex and trading sector, I’ve found that JaneStreet operates differently from typical retail brokers, especially regarding fees such as commissions and spreads. JaneStreet is structured as a global quantitative trading firm and liquidity provider, primarily catering to institutional clients, not individual retail traders. They do not offer standard trading accounts or access to widely-used platforms like MT4 or MT5, which makes their fee structure fundamentally distinct from brokers that target individual traders. Unlike retail-focused platforms that publish clear commission rates or typical spread ranges, JaneStreet engages in market making across ETFs, equities, bonds, and options on over 200 global venues through direct institutional partnerships or proprietary trading. In my understanding, such firms generally do not publicize fixed commission schedules or spread tables for public consumption because their rates are highly customized. Pricing, in this environment, is commonly negotiated bilaterally and tailored to sophisticated counterparties based on factors like trading volume, asset class, and agreement specifics. In my conservative assessment, for anyone used to transparent per-trade fees or published spreads, JaneStreet’s structure may seem opaque. This lack of transparency is due to the focus on high-volume, algorithmic, and cross-asset market making rather than individual order execution. For private traders or those seeking low entry costs, this model does not provide the operational clarity or cost predictability that is typically needed. As such, for me, JaneStreet is not a suitable option for retail trading, and those with institutional scale would need to directly engage with their team to discuss bespoke fee arrangements.
